IP CCTV Installation at Droylsden Football Club
From Clubhouse to Stands - CCTV Coverage Where It Matters
IP CCTV Installation at Droylsden Football Club
Tameside Security has been working with Droylsden Football Club to improve CCTV coverage across the clubhouse, stands and wider football ground with a phased Hikvision IP CCTV installation.
Phase one has now been completed, providing the clubhouse with an eight-camera CCTV system featuring 6MP 3K cameras, one-way audio and remote viewing.
Phase two is currently underway and extends CCTV coverage into the stands using specialist PTZ cameras with powerful optical zoom, automatic tracking and wireless connectivity.
The Challenge
A football ground presents very different security requirements to a standard commercial property.
There are internal clubhouse areas to protect alongside spectator stands and large external spaces where incidents can happen some distance from the nearest camera.
The CCTV system therefore needed to provide clear everyday security coverage while also giving the club the ability to monitor activity across much larger areas of the ground.
Rather than installing everything at once, the project has been divided into phases so that CCTV coverage can be expanded around the club’s requirements.
Phase One: Eight-Camera Clubhouse CCTV System
The first phase focused on the clubhouse and is now complete.
Tameside Security installed an eight-camera Hikvision IP CCTV system using 6MP 3K cameras to provide high-quality coverage throughout key areas of the building.
The system also includes one-way audio capability and remote viewing, allowing authorised users to access the CCTV system remotely when required.
Camera feeds are brought together through the club’s CCTV recorder and monitoring equipment, providing a clear overview of the different areas being protected.
Phase Two: PTZ CCTV Coverage for the Stands
The second phase of the project is currently in progress and is extending coverage throughout the spectator stands.
Two Hikvision 4MP IP PTZ cameras have been installed so far, with further work planned as the system develops.
PTZ – pan, tilt and zoom – cameras are particularly useful for a site of this size because they are capable of covering a much wider area than a fixed-position camera.
The cameras installed at Droylsden FC offer up to 36x optical zoom, allowing operators to view activity and incidents occurring much further away while retaining significantly more detail than would be possible simply by digitally enlarging recorded footage.
Automatic Tracking for Ongoing Incidents
The PTZ cameras also feature automatic tracking technology.
This allows the cameras to follow movement within their coverage area, making them particularly useful when monitoring activity or an ongoing incident across the stands.
For a football club, this can provide valuable additional visibility when monitoring crowds, identifying individuals involved in an incident or reviewing events afterwards.
Connecting CCTV Across the Ground with Wireless Bridges
One of the challenges when extending CCTV around a football ground is connecting cameras positioned some distance from the main CCTV equipment.
For this stage of the Droylsden FC project, wireless bridges are being used to transmit the CCTV connection between different areas of the site.
This provides a practical way of extending the IP CCTV network across the ground without relying on a conventional wired connection between every camera location and the main system.
CCTV for Crowd Monitoring, Security and Incident Investigation
For football clubs and other sports venues, CCTV can have a much wider role than simply protecting a building against theft.
Good camera coverage can help clubs monitor spectators and activity around the ground, respond to ongoing incidents and provide recorded footage when an incident needs to be investigated afterwards.
Clear CCTV footage can also support a club’s wider security and insurance arrangements by helping demonstrate the security measures in place and providing evidence where required.
A CCTV System Designed to Grow with the Site
The ongoing work at Droylsden Football Club demonstrates one of the key advantages of a well-designed IP CCTV system: it does not necessarily have to be completed in a single installation.
The first phase has provided comprehensive clubhouse coverage, while the second phase is adding more specialist surveillance across the stands.
As requirements change, further cameras and coverage can be incorporated into the system, making IP CCTV particularly well suited to larger and more complex commercial sites.
